Produce a SCADA Mimic Animation
There are tons of fancy SCADA mimic animation out there in the world wide industry, which may seem rather complicated but actually it is not difficult to produce. In this training, instead of ordinary technical configuration, let’s try something more fun and go through an example for a simple motor animation used for a plant monitoring process.
Before proceed to draw the SCADA mimic, create a new or open an existing project using Ecava IGX, then create 2 virtual tags to indicate the motor status (i.e. Boolean type, ‘true’ for Running, and ‘false’ for Failed), and save the project.
Launch Inkscape SAGE (Download for FREE), use the drawing tool to create simple mimic for motor fan, for example a simple one as shown below:
First, make sure there are two identical object created (just simply duplicate it and put them in the same coordinates, overlapping each other), in order to represent failed/error animation, as well as success/running animation.
Let’s start with the failed case, fill the motor fan mimic with red color, then right click on it and open ‘Object Properties’, navigate to tab ‘Opacity’ and set the correspondent tag as well as the limit value, as shown below.
After that, change selection to the success/running mimic and fill it in green color. Right click on it and open ‘Object Properties’, navigate to tab ‘Opacity’ and set the correspondent tag as well as the limit value, as shown below.
For success/running case, it is required to show some movement for the motor fan. Click on ‘Rotate’ tab to configure a rotate animation. In this training, we will make use of the Application tag ‘app.currentTime.second’ which will change every second, for example as shown follow.
Now the project is ready to be run, save everything and click on ‘Run Project’ in Project Editor. Modify and play around with the Virtual tags’ values in Ecava IGX Server’s Watch Window, then observe the SCADA mimic animation on the front-end browser, which should appear similarly as shown in the animated GIF image below.
